About Us
Dr Pamela Kaushal is a consultant psychiatrist, who was born & raised in the UK and in 2018 took a one year sabbatical from her successful medical career to go to India, where she provided voluntary medical & educational services to various NGO’s.
During this year, she started a tuition centre for 150 of the poorest children in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. This experience prompted her to survey the Indian government education system, where she discovered significant inequalities & poor standards of education received by the poorest children who attended these schools.
Vidya Jyoti India was named after Dr Kaushal’s mother, Mrs Som Jyoti Kaushal, who came to Britain in the early 1960’s. Som Jyoti worked very hard to ensure that Dr Kaushal achieved her dream of becoming a doctor & encouraged her to use her education & skills for the upliftment of the poor & needy.
We have also been very fortunate to receive the blessings & encouragement of Mrs Veena Bhardwaj & late Sh. Rajendra Bhardwaj, who are the parents of the Bhardwaj family, pioneers of UCH Logistics, one of our main partners.
Vishal’s association with Vidya Jyoti began as a small donation made via a Facebook campaign to raise funds. He later spoke to Dr Kaushal, who is also a family friend, to see how she was getting on with the charity. The more he listened to her, the more he realised how close to his heart this cause was. He eventually joined the Trustee team as Treasurer along with his wife Angela who is the acting Secretary.

Vidya Jyoti has been inspired by our Spiritual Master Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba who taught us service to Mankind is service to God.
